Wheel Throwing

Instruction focuses on introduction to
wheel throwing techniques of centering, forming cylinders of varying sizes, and trimming with intentions to make a mug, bowl, and more!

This course (or our 4-Week Dig Deep course) is a prerequisite to possibly gaining an invite to membership at 
Marvelous Mud Pottery Studio

Moving in to a Monthly Studio Membership spot depends on availability as well as class dynamics. Continued wheel throwing is only available in the Monthly Studio Membership.

 Spring 2025

Thursdays, February 20 - March 27 , 2025;  6-9 PM

~ • Class Info • ~

• Instruction focuses on introduction to wheel throwing techniques of centering, forming cylinders, and trimming that lead to a variety of shapes.
  

• One instructional class teaches some of the basics of hand-building so thrown pieces can be finished with handles and form altered vessels.
  

• Instruction on glazing pieces will be mixed in throughout the second half of the course.
  
  
• Students are instructed in good wheel throwing habits for a solid foundation on the wheel and to form skill building.
  
  
• 6 weeks of 3 hour classes each week.
  
  
• Included: clay and studio glazes, and dedicated use of pottery wheel, kiln firings, guided instruction. Students, please bring your own towel.
  
  
• A set of basic tools (around $10) is required for each student to purchase separately. A link is available on a follow-up email sent after registration.
  
  
• Wheel throwing is a challenging skill to learn that takes time and practice. We specialize in specific instruction to build skill, not for quick entertainment style experiences. Patience and commitment to learning are key to success for wheel throwing.
  
  
• Classes start promptly on time.
  
  
• Class Registrations are non-refundable.
  
  

• Must be 18 Years or Older. No Walk-Ins. Only registered students are permitted in the studio.

~ • Moving Up A Level • ~

At the end of the 6 Week Course, there are three options...

1. If there is an available spot, you may be invited to move up to your choice of Monthly Studio Membership that offers 4 Weekly 3 Hour Instructional Classes and 1 Monthly 3 Hour Open Studio. 2. You may be invited to take another 6 Week Wheel Throwing Course or take our 4 Week Handbuilding Course if if no spots are available in other classes or if you desire to not commit to the membership. 
   
   
3. Or... because class dynamics are of utmost importance to ensuring everyone has a good experience both with clay and with the small group, we may decide that it is not a good fit for moving on together.
