Color Clay 1:
Core Concepts of Color Clay

2-Day Workshop

Saturday January 30 2027, 9AM-4PM
Sunday January 31 2027, 9AM - 4 PM

Ready to move beyond surface decoration and build with color from the inside out?

Color Clay 1: Core Concepts

The beginning of your Color Clay journey.

This two-day workshop serves as the Core Curriculum for our Color Clay program and is required before enrolling in any Foundations, Level 2, or Level 3 Color Clay classes.

Working with our custom premixed colored clays, you'll discover how color can become an integral part of the clay itself rather than simply a surface treatment. Through a series of guided exercises and small projects, you'll explore gradients, marbling, color blending, laminated color layers, and basic clay canes while building a personal library of reference samples.

Along the way, you'll gain an understanding of how colored clay behaves, how colors interact, and how to create clean, vibrant effects that will become the building blocks for future studies in relief painting, slip work, cane building, neriage, nerikomi, sculptural applications, and wheel-thrown color clay techniques.

Whether your interest lies in functional pottery, sculpture, or surface design, Color Clay 1 provides the essential skills needed to confidently move through the rest of the curriculum.

Color Clay 1 is required before all Foundations, Level 2, and Level 3 Color Clay classes.
