Creature Comfort Bowl

2-Part Class

Sundays November 1 and 15, 2026;  1-4PM each day!

Bring personality, charm, and a touch of whimsy into your clay work while creating an expressive animal-inspired bowl full of character.

In this playful handbuilding workshop, students will design and sculpt a functional bowl inspired by animals, woodland creatures, birds, insects, or imaginative critters of their own invention. From sleepy frogs and curious puppies to floral bees, quirky birds, turtles, pigs, deer, cats, and beyond… each piece will develop its own personality through form, expression, texture, and glaze.

You’ll begin by handbuilding a functional bowl form, then build outward using sculptural additions such as ears, paws, wings, antennae, snouts, flowers, mushrooms, feathers, or antlers. Instruction will focus on approachable construction methods that allow students to create expressive, dimensional pieces without becoming overwhelmed by detail. 

In the second class, you will glaze and bring each creature to life while maintaining the handmade, artistic quality that makes these pieces feel special and one-of-a-kind.

This workshop is ideal for students of all levels who enjoy storytelling through clay, expressive forms, playful sculpting, and functional art with personality.

You will explore:

• Building and shaping a functional bowl form

• Creating expressive animal features and sculptural additions

• Attaching dimensional elements securely

• Developing personality through facial expression and gesture

• Adding texture, layered details, and surface accents

• Glazing techniques that enhance whimsy and depth

Possible inspiration directions include:

• Woodland creatures

• Birds or bees

• Frogs or turtles

• Cats, dogs, or pigs

• Reindeer or turkeys

• Fantasy-inspired animals

• Floral and nature embellishments

• Rustic folk-art inspired creatures

Each finished piece will be uniquely yours… functional, expressive, and delightfully full of personality.

All classes at Marvelous Mud Pottery Studio are designed for adults.

Members may use specific Member Discount Code for this class (found in Communities) if using their own clay. Discount Code must be used at checkout. No refunds will be given full registration.

Class Info

• Instruction will lead students to each hand-build their own pieces. All levels welcome.

• Adults Only (18 years and up) Only registered students are permitted in the studio.

• Two Classes... Class 1: Hand-build pieces with wet clay. Class 2: Glaze bisque fired piece.

• Included: all clay and glazes, use of tools and equipment, 2 kiln firings, guided instruction.

• We start classes promptly on time. Class Registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable. No make-ups for missed classes. Please email with any questions.
