A Two-Part Chicken Sculpting Clay Class

Happy Little Hens is a relaxed, joyful two-part clay class focused on creating a small, expressive chicken sculpture full of personality. Whether whimsical, cozy, or quietly proud, your hen will reflect your own creative voice.

Part One – Build & Sculpt
In the first session, you’ll fully handbuild your hen from start to finish. Guided instruction will cover forming a hollow structure, establishing posture and proportion, and shaping the head, body, and stance. We’ll explore how subtle details—like a tilt of the head or curve of the body—create charm and expression. Your sculpture will be completed during this session and prepared for bisque firing.

Part Two – Glazing & Finish
Once bisque fired, we’ll return to your hen in Part Two to focus entirely on glazing. You’ll learn simple glazing approaches to enhance texture, highlight details, and add color in a way that complements your sculpture’s personality. This session emphasizes thoughtful surface choices and enjoying the finishing process without rush.

This class is designed for adults who are brand new to clay as well as those with some prior experience. Instruction is approachable and supportive, with plenty of guidance throughout the process.

Whether this is your first time sculpting or a chance to enjoy a playful project, the focus is on exploration, expression, and the simple joy of making—rather than perfection.

All classes at Marvelous Mud Pottery Studio are designed for adults.

Class Info

• Instruction will lead students to each hand-build their own pieces. All levels welcome.

• Adults Only (18 years and up) Only registered students are permitted in the studio.

• Two Classes... Class 1: Hand-build pieces with wet clay. Class 2: Glaze bisque fired piece.

• Included: all clay and glazes, use of tools and equipment, 2 kiln firings, guided instruction.

• We start classes promptly on time. Class Registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable. No make-ups for missed classes. Please email with any questions.
